An Event to Remember: eTech Rentals Keeps the Crew Connected During Elton John Farewell Tour at Dodger Stadium
March 17, 2023
When The Rocket Man himself, Elton John, is performing, you can pretty much guarantee it's going to be a massive event with a massive crowd. Add in a historic venue like Dodger Stadium, and you've got yourself a recipe for a concert for the ages.
For the event production company in charge of putting on this show, the logistics were anything but easy to figure out. One of its main challenges revolved around how to get dependable WiFi to reach across the expansive Dodger Stadium parking lot. There were two separate groups, or "compounds" that needed internet access. The first was the area reserved for the production staff and artists that consisted of 29 office trailers in which WiFi was needed for the three day concert, and also one week leading up to the event, The second was the area where media members set up shop. And this was a heavily covered event with no small amount of media.
So what did the event production company do? They turned to eTech Rentals.
First came the production and artist compound. eTech Rentals ran hard lines to provide high-speed Spectrum WiFi. Using Point to Point technology and fiber, eTech extended the internet source to our NOC (Network Operations Center), and deployed more than a mile of ethernet cables. Additionally, network switches and numerous access points were used to distribute the WiFi throughout the production and artist area.
In total, the production and artist compound network usage averaged about 3000 Mbps with more than 400 wireless clients.
Then came the media area. Ensuring members of the media had an adequate connection to upload photos, video interviews, and other large pieces of content, in a timely manner of course, was no light undertaking.
eTech used ethernet to extend the AT&T 250 Mbps internet source to our NOC in the media parking lot. It took over 1,500 feet of cables, network switches, and numerous access points to get the WiFi distributed throughout the compound.
The media area network averaged about 225 Mbps with more than 200 wireless clients.
To make this all happen, it took one week of work with one network engineer and three networking techs. And while the concert ran for three days, with concert production preparation starting a week before the event, the load out itself only took a few hours.
At the end of it all, the event turned out to be a resounding success. Both compounds received fast, reliable WiFi connections that were closed to the public to ensure reliability, security, and speed.
The next time you need reliable WiFi for an event, don't go breaking our hearts and reach out to eTech Rentals for professional, dependable, and proven services.
